Believe it or not, when the Zoo de Mack organizers put the disclaimer that this multi-mile bike ride is not a race; they mean it! Proudly going for over 20 years, the Zoo de Mack is a springtime rite of passage for the numerous bicycle enthusiasts who enter and attend the event. It’s not only a celebration of Mackinac Island itself, but of the entire Boyne Highlands ski area, Lake Michigan, and little Traverse Bay. What could be more stimulating than experiencing the fantastic scenery of northern Michigan’s great outdoors by cycling, socializing, and experiencing it firsthand?
Over 3,000 participants choose to ride the Zoo de Mack, this event attracts numerous outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy a weekend filled with huge parties with great bands, one of the most scenic bicycle rides in the country, lots of sunshine, views of the mighty Mackinac Bridge, and the magic of Mackinac Island. This gathering allows people to enjoy a little physical exercise together in one of the most beautiful areas in the state of Michigan. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Lake Michigan from 400’ high bluffs, as you pedal through rolling countryside, trillium covered forests, and sandy beaches. The ride starts out on a Saturday morning at the Boyne Highlands Resort, stops approximately half way for a leisurely lunch and story-swapping session. From there the ride continues on to Mackinaw City for a huge finish line party at The Crossings where Arnold Ferry boats have been chartered for the ride over to Mackinac Island. From there, participants can check into their hotel and stroll into town to forget the aches and pains from the day’s ride. At night, the magical island comes alive with numerous post-ride parties and incredible live bands.
