Come Stay with us on Mackinac Island
In addition to all of the living history and natural beauty which Mackinac Island provides, it has been known as a gathering place for musicians from across the country. The 2011 Mackinac Island Music Festival will commence on August 16-18.
The Mackinac Island Music Festival was originally created to celebrate the musicians living and working on Mackinac Island as well as to support regional and national touring musicians.
The festival celebrates all types of music including; bluegrass, classical, jazz, country, folk, and rock. What began as a one day event is now one of the island’s most popular three day festivals where you can listen to all kinds of live music in the quaint historic settings, and even in the great outdoors.
Headliner for the 2011 Music Festival will feature the music from Joe Cocker’s Mad Dogs and Englishmen…songs include a number of soul, rock, and R&B classics, plus originals by others, such as; “Let’s Go Get Stoned”, “Space Captain”, “Delta Lady”,“Honky Tonk Women”, “Superstar”, “She Came In Thru The Bathroom Window”, “Let It Be”, and “Give Peace A Chance”. This is certainly a “don’t miss” performance.
Festival director, Mary McGuire is also an Island musician. For her, the festival shares “performing with friends immersed in the beauty of Mackinac Island (is what)makes this festival something special. We all get to live together on a beautiful Island and jam before and after all the gigs.” She adds “the Mission Point Theatre is charming, it was built with fifty foot trusses made of Norway Pine from nearby Bois Blanc Island and forty-five tons of native stone so not only is it beautiful, the sound quality is amazing.” What more can you ask for from a music festival than fabulous acoustics in a naturally beautiful setting?
We hope you will come join us on the island at Mackinac Resorts as we celebrate those who have dedicated their lives to music and the music scene here on Mackinac Island.
