Mackinac Island Festival of the Horses

Mackinac Island Festival of the Horses

It has long been a dream of many Mackinac Island residents that the island provide and support a community stable.  The Mackinac Island Festival of the Horse is a way to celebrate all things equestrian, raise some money, and have some outdoor fun on Mackinac Island.  Join us for Mackinac Island, Michigan's Third Annual Mackinac Island Festival of the Horse on July 20-24, 2011!

There are many family-friendly events to choose from including: stable tours of the historic Victorian era barns on the prestigious West Bluff, the Antique Carriage Show, the Breeds of Mackinac presentation, lectures on the role of the horse in Mackinac's history, a good old-fashioned Barn Raisin' Dance to raise money for the new stable, hackney coach demonstrations, and numerous horsemanship demonstrations.  Come celebrate the animal which has replaced the automobile on Mackinac Island.

When the new community stable is built, it  will be located on land leased from the Mackinac Island State Park Commission across British Landing Road from the Wawashkamo Golf Course Clubhouse.  Many prominent residents, organizations, and governing officials all support the establishment of a permanent community stable.  The parties mentioned all share a common thread: a genuine dedication and admiration for the history and natural beauty of Mackinac Island.
This commitment to “everything Mackinac” includes thethe horse culture of Mackinac Island.

Preserving the horse culture of the island is a primary concern amongst the resounding majority of residents, property owners and visitors. It is held by many that a permanent community stable would not only contribute to the preservation of the horse culture, but by doing so, help continue to promote Mackinac Island as a unique Michigan tourist destination for generations to come.  A community stable would be used by residents and tourists alike in their Mackinac experience.

Kiss your automobile good-bye and travel back in time to the island where “horse is king” by attending the Mackinac Island Festival of Horses.
