Come Stay with us on Mackinac Island
A “Mackinac” Halloween is definitely not your typical Halloween experience. In the first place, it tends not to occcur exactly on October 31st as that is when the island is preparing to shut down for winter. Even with the date change, it still is lots of silly fun in a fabulous setting.
Some past costume high lights include; a rather large bald man wearing a giant diaper and a sash (baby new year) chasing Tinkerbell down the street wielding a squirt gun..............or the fantastic lobster costume one young man constructed, he had thought of everything including a hose to ingest beer. Of course, there are also some family-friendly activities like pumpkin-carving contests, bobbing for apples, and a costume parade.
Halloween costumes are creative and there are lots of participants from all walks of island life. Here you can see locals, workers, business people, former workers, summer people, and savvy visitors gather and celebrate this fun fall festival. Several of the major bars such as Horn’s Bar and the Pink Pony hold big parties with prizes. A few employers hold pumpkin carving contests for their employees.
The other activities such as: haunted houses, haunted woods walks, and such--- vary from year to year, with each year new innovations and scare tactics employed. If you like Halloween and want to let the kid inside you out, or, if you have a family that loves Halloween, then, this is the place for you to really get your “boo” on.
So, come and check it out for yourself in a place where there truly is no escape -- well, except by ferry. What could be better than a haunted hospitality island with real ghosts and living history in a natural setting. Who knows, maybe some pirate ghosts will appear with treasure this year.
