Come Stay with us on Mackinac Island
The annual Mackinac Island Christmas Celebration and Bazaar always starts the holiday seaons off on the right foot with its early December tree lighting ceremony. What could be more magical than this snow-covered back in time island beginning the countdown to the twelve days of Christmas with carol singers, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and the smell of fresh pine trees. Of course, there is also the more modern hospitality of hot dogs and hot chocolate which is available at the Fire Hall, before the annual rummage sale which remains open until 9 p.m.
The Christmas Bazaar occurs the first weekend in December at the Community Hall on Market Street. Auctions, raffles, booths, and a luncheon will help raise money to benefit a variety of island charitable organizations. The Christmas Bazaar artisans and booths always offer something unique, festive, and completely handmade.
In addition, there is the live afternoon auction. Get your bidding techniques refined as competition is sometimes fierce for the many beautiful things being auctioned off For those of you who prefer to spar your heart palpitations, a rummage sale will be held in the Fire Hall each day.
There’s children’s hayrides, delicious lunches, and when Santa arrives at the Community Hall, lots of time for taking pictures. Children’s games and activities are always offered and the Sunday lunch is usually a beautifully prepared prime rib of beef.
Don’t miss this annual charity event and fantastic start of the holiday season! After all, we all know that Santa sees all and he would want you here to welcome him in an old-fashioned festival spirit. All auction items are donated by Mackinac Island merchants and there are some wonderful things to bid on and enjoy. Come, deck the halls with boughs of real, fresh holly and take in the old-fashioned craftsmanship of the Mackinac Island Christmas Bazaar.
