Come Stay with us on Mackinac Island
The annual Chicago to Mackinac yacht race is one of the most prestigious yachting traditions. For over one hundred years, this annual sailing extravaganza has entertained, uplifted, and educated people about the joys of sailing -- all while watching a pretty exciting race, to boot. When the Chicago Yacht Club began, it’s tag line of “A Tradition of Yachting Excellence” is a fitting description for a club that has dedicated itself to promoting the sport and perpetuating the values of camaraderie and community. The longtime intent of the club has been to: “To find a better way to attract more boats, more sailors, and to organize better races and other yachting events.” This continues to be the club’s tradition 134 years later. By sponsoring races, yachting, and sailing introductory activities, this club remains one of the oldest and most respected yacht clubs in the world.
The Chicago Yacht Race, or “Mac Race” as it is known affectionately amongst afficionados, has a rich tradition of sailing excellence in Lake Michigan sailing history. Winning the “Mac” trophy is a major accomplishment for the participants. When you stay on the island to welcome in the finishers, you are becoming part of that tradition of excellence. As a special event for this year’s race, all the Mac trophies will be on display in the lounge and dining room of the Mackinac Island Yacht Club for one night only. These trophies are rich in history and a spectacular sight. There are many ripping yarns and exciting sailor stories about each of these trophies. The Mackinac Island Yacht Club has invited several speakers who will be speaking on behalf of the trophies by telling us their interesting history and wonderful stories. This event is open to Yacht Club members and non-members. Do not miss this unique opportunity! At this point in time, 300 or the race’s 375 spots are already registered for.
