Arts and Antique Weekend

Arts and Antique Weekend

You inherited a painting which once hung in a treasured spot in Aunt Mabel’s sitting room, but now its part of your cobwebbed keepsakes in the attic.  Or Grandma gifted you a lampstand -- exquisite yet odd -- for your wedding years ago and it’s now tucked away in the darkest corner of the junk room.  The list of forgotten arts and antiques goes on and on.  After all, one man’s junk is truly another man’s treasure.

Forget about watching “The Antiques Roadshow,”  Mackinac Island has its very own live version
during the middle of July.  After all, haven’t you stared at your odd, but unique items,  once or twice over the years and wondered how much they’re really worth?

Well, it’s time to stop wondering and start discovering at the “Grand Mackinac Antiques Appraisal Show,” sponsored by Mackinac State Historic Parks (MSHP), Mackinac Associates, and Grand Hotel. You can bring up to two of your antique treasures, and let your curiosity be satisfied once and for all. Or not.  There’s always that one item that seems like it would be worth lots of money and has been completely devalued through time.  The fun and excitement is in the anticipation of the unknown.

The daylong event and activity includes art/antiques lectures in the morning and art/antiques appraisals in the afternoon and evening. Aunt Mabel would surely be more than proud to find out the value of that painting all these many years later.  This annual event always attracts some major antiquers for the keynote speakers and amongst all the treasured stuff, there are a variety of demonstrations and lectures about antiques to attend.

Come and indulge your curiosity at Mackinac’s version of the Ye Olde Curiosity Shoppe during mid-July.  Details can be found at: http://www.mackinacparks.com  You won’t want to miss all the treasure hunting and finding out the true value of so many different things.
