Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

Annual Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk

Everyone dreads the approach of Labor Day as the end of summer.  This year, why not celebrate it by participating in the annual Mackinac bridge walk.  The walk is sponsored by the Mackinac Bridge Authority, the St. Ignace Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Mackinaw Area Chamber of Commerce.  This free walk is an annual end of summer, welcome to autumn event which gives pedestrians the opportunity to share the Mackinac Bridge with vehicles for the entire day.

The Governor’s party starts the bridge walk at approximately 7:00 a.m.  Remember that NO ONE is permitted to begin after 11:00 a.m., so come early.  This scenic walk begins in St. Ignace at the north end of the Mackinac Bridge in the UPPER PENINSULA, and ends in Mackinaw City at the south end in the LOWER PENINSULA. It’s a fantastic way to experience the two land masses that make up Michigan all in a single day.  At the end of the day St. Ignace school buses provided by the Mackinac Bridge Authority will take you back to your starting point parking lot.  A useful piece of information to remember is that there are no bathrooms available on the bridge, so take care of all your personal needs before you begin the walk.  There are, however, porta-potties set up at both the front and back ends of the bridge.

As part of participating in this annual event, you will receive a numbered bridge walk certificate upon the completion of your walk.  That certificate number may match a number on display in any of the store windows in Mackinaw City or the City of St. Ignace on day of event only.  If you have a winning number, remember to claim your prize which is worth anywhere from $15 to $150 in merchandise from the display store. Good Luck!

Instead of viewing Labor Day as the end of wearing white, why not get some exercise, have some fun, and possibly even win a prize by walking the Mackinac Bridge.
