Come Stay with us on Mackinac Island
Whether you are staying on the island itself or experiencing one of the many moonlight cruises, the Mackinac Island 4th of July fireworks are always spectacular. Come spend your Independence Day, joining in the fun for the Annual Stone Skipping tournament and the All American Picnic at Fort Mackinac. The Grand Hotel provides the catering and the island’s Parks and Recreation Department provides the fireworks.
The Annual Stone Skipping Tournament returns to the Island at Windermere Point across from Windermere Hotel and next to Hotel Iroquois on the Beach. Skippers amateur and pro alike are welcome. The view is spectacular and everyone has a rollicking, rockin’ time trying to get their special stone to skip the most skips over to the shores of Lake Michigan.
At Fort Mackinac itself, military demonstrations and gun salutes abound all day with patriotic music amidst the charm of an original Revolutionary War Fort. A most fitting place to celebrate American independence.
There’s always opportunities for good ole fashioned fun with the island’s 4th of July events. The Mackinac Island Recreation Department provides an afternoon of fun and games.Try your luck at the Greasy Pole Climb, sack races, balloon toss, watermelon roll, face painting and more. Be sure to bring your camera because there are photo opportunities aplenty at this event.
Nourish your inner patriot with Grand Hotel’s all-you-can-eat tangy BBQ baby-back ribs, grilled chicken breasts, hamburgers, hot dogs, turkey burgers, corn on the cob and a slew of salads, fixings and desserts – all served on Fort Mackinac's parade ground. Spread one of the festive red-and-white-checkered tablecloths and enjoy the fun and food. Be sure to leave room for dessert.
Then, after a day of food, friendship, military salutes, and picnic games, the greatest fireworks in the straits occur at dusk over Round Island Lighthouse courtesy of the city of Mackinac Island and Grand Hotel. Bring a blanket, lay back, and stretch out on the freshwater coastline for a 4th of July fit to beat the band.
